Day 9/25: I Have A Confession…I’m A Bookworm | Mojo Magic

I love to read. Not a day goes by where I don’t read for an hour or two. Don’t believe me?

screentime.png

This is a screenshot from my Screen Time from last week.

I have phases where I read actual novels, manga or online stories on Wattpad. I tend to bounce between the three choices but I must admit reading on my phone is so much easier than reading a story than an actual book. I love to read in bed while laying on my side and that’s just too difficult to do with a paperback. Saying that, once I get my tablet I might get into the habit of reading eBooks so will that count as actual novels? Who knows? Anyway, I read a lot (some days I can read all day) and it’s safe to say I’m a little bookworm. I figured I will share some of my favorite stories and stories I’m currently reading.

Wattpad

1. A Crown of Bones by world_joy_

Summary: A teen werewolf will stop at nothing to get power, even if that means eating the forbidden fruit that will forever bind her to the keeper of death itself. After rejecting the Wolf King and refusing to be his docile, powerless bride, Korin escapes into the mountains in search of forbidden fruit. And while the legends say that anyone who eats the fruit will be enslaved to the keeper of death itself, Korin is confident she can become something more. Because the power that comes with being queen of the underworld is everything she craves, as she’ll finally be able to destroy the society that ripped her werewolf identity from her soul.

My thoughts: I have a soft spot for werewolf stories and this story was a completely new twist on the genre. The story kept me on my toes and I couldn’t predict what was going to happen next which is rare in my case. I fully enjoyed it. I do want to add that Wattpad recently launched the paid program where you need to pay via coins to access the entirety of some stories. This story is one of them. You can read the first eight chapters of this story before you will need to pay to read the rest. I do want to add that I read the book before the paid program launched so I’m sorry it’s no longer free? I still think it’s a great read though.

You can read it here.

2. Breaking The Bad Boy by kaddydee

Summary: Ashley Martin has been through more grief than a person experiences in their entire life and carries baggage that no kid should ever entail. Tyler Miller is the school’s scandalous bad boy who acts on impulse, blinded rage and will single-handedly destroy anybody who stands in his way. Then all of a sudden, they’re thrown together and despite their destructive past, they’re forced to overcome their differences. It’s time for Ashley to stop running away from his death glares, blank stares and that spine-chilling scowl that reminds her just how little he cares. Driven by a whirlwind of secrets, a class assignment and midnight walks into the past, things should start working out. But then fate kicks in; hard-hitting and soul-crushing. It’s a fight-or-flight situation, a reincarnation of her past, a chance for him to right the wrongs he did by her. A second chance is like giving someone an extra bullet for their gun after they missed you the first time round. So here’s Tyler’s gun. Here’s Ashley’s heart. And here’s to their second chance, however hopeless it may seem.

My thoughts: This story made me cry like a little bitch numerous times and that’s putting it nicely. It rips open your heart and makes you feel things but damn did I love this story. It gave me a new perspective on death and grief at a time I needed it the most. I can definitely see myself rereading this story in a few years. It’s that good.

3. A Secret Service by joymoment

Summary: As a daughter of a Secret Service agent, Carter knows how to defend herself and read people, two skills she uses to keep everyone at bay. This isn’t difficult when she’s the outcast at Hamilton Prep, a school filled with the children of D. C.’s elite. Including the President’s son. Her status as social pariah is changed when a flood of new students turn up at the school. Carter finds herself making two unexpected friends, Link and Donovan, who are unconcerned with where she falls on the social ladder and amused by her sharp wit and snarky comments. The only problem is there might be more to them than meets the eye, a fact Carter doesn’t fail to notice.

“I’m going to break your nose, because I don’t like your face,” Carter said. She pointed to Zac. “I’m going to dislocate your other shoulder, just to make them even.” She cocked her head and gave the main guy a sickly sweet smile. “I’m going to break your wrist, taking away your baseball career. And finally you, Finch,” she said, looking to the last guy. “I’m going to bust your ankle because I don’t like the way you walk.” She slid her hands into her pockets. “Now, how does that sound to all of you? And please feel free to look amused, skeptical or patronizing at this point. I’ll have all the more fun wiping the expressions off your faces.”

My thoughts: I loved this story. It’s one of those feel-good-make-you-have-a-little-laugh story which I think we all need on some days. I’ve already reread it and now talking about it, I might give it another read soon. It’s that good.

4. The Horse Mistress: Book 1 by RA_Steffan

Summary: Carivel was born female, but she has been secretly living as a boy for years in her adoptive village of Draebard. The last thing she needs is to fall for not one, but two unattainable men-a dominating warrior and a reluctant wolf-shifter with a horrific past. Now, the Alyrion Empire is poised to invade, and Carivel must choose whether to keep her secret or reveal it-not only to the men she loves, but also to the powerful female ruler whose army could help protect Draebard during the coming war. Steamy and spellbinding, The Horse Mistress: Book 1 combines detailed world-building and a heartfelt romance between three noble, damaged people who have no one to turn to but each other.

My thoughts: This story is one of the few historical stories that I fully enjoyed. There is just something about the determination the main character carries inside her that inspires you to push forward in difficult times. It is only a sample though so to read the rest you have the purchase the book on the Author’s website.

You can read it here.

5. Abnormalities In a Broken Society by AnjeT23

Summary: “We interrupt your regularly scheduled program to bring you breaking news! An Abnormal has escaped from her containment facility. She is believed to be highly powerful and extremely dangerous. If you see her, contact the appropriate authorities immediately. Do not, and I repeat, do not approach this individual. We have been told that she is extremely aggressive and will attack anyone who gets in her way, we_” I switch the T.V off with a sigh, frowning at the blank screen in annoyance. They could at least use a better photo of me.  With another sigh, I place the remote on the soft, blue couch and return to the dining room. There the family whom this house belongs to were waiting.  They stared at the plates of food in front of them, their faces slack and their eyes glazed over. I fell into an empty chair and smiled at them. “Right, where were we?”

My thoughts: My best friend in the entire world (minus my husband) is the author of this novel but our friendship aside, her book is really good. It’s still ongoing but I predict great things for her story. It’s one of those stories that makes you think about serious topics without it being in your face.

Here is a short list of stories on Wattpad that I’m still reading but enjoying so far. Some of them are a bit intense so proceed with caution.

  • The Bite: Book I by ZeroWineThirty — Summary: Charlotte is on the run from a troubled past to start a new life, turn a new page and begin again. Little does she know that the new life she is about to start, is one that is only supposed to exist only in fairy tales. What was a minor decision put her in the wrong place at the wrong time; a decision that will be burned into her memory, a decision that forced her to fight for her life, a decision that will turn her into a thing of fairy tales- and it only took one bite. — You can read it here.
  • My Life with the Walter Boys by Fallzswimmer — Summary: Sixteen-year-old Jackie Howard knows nothing about her new guardian Katherine Walter when she moves from New York to Colorado. After discovering that Katherine has twelve boys, Jackie fears that living in the Walter house isn’t going to be easy. It’s just icing on the cake that the boys look like models… — You can read it here.
  • WAVE by AliciaMarino — Summary: What do you do when disaster strikes? You survive. On the night before her entire life changes, Genevieve Harding was walking along the shoreline with a man she’d only just met. Tristan Maddox. A man who grazed the pages of the magazines and newspapers she’s read. He was with her…he WANTED to be with her. What she didn’t know was the next day, a devastating tsunami will slam the coast of Thailand, knocking her and everything in her path into chaos. And what’s more is that the man, Tristan Maddox, will play a far more important role in her life than she could ever know… — You can read it here.
  • Vampire’s Pet by cannoness — Summary: The world had gone to hell long ago, taken over by the vampire race. In order to keep some sort of peace in our land, the Vampire Lords made a consecutive agreement. The rich and powerful humans could survive just as they had been, untouched by the vampires save for the occasional blood collections, or so they thought. In reality, we were all under their control. Castles spread out throughout our land, one landing in each city. Each castle varied in the number of vampires residing there, but all of them carried a Lord. The Lords were the ones in charge in every city, whether we liked it or not. The vampires often roam through the city, making sure that everyone was in order and no one stepped out of line. If you stepped out of line, you died, end of story. Even if the rich were still under their control, their lives were still better than the poor. The poorest lives held a much worse fate. The men were to be put to work as slaves, whether that meant serving a specific vampire, or just building their castles, they were slaves. The women were to be pets. Pets were the lowest rank you could have. They were forced into cages that were too small to stand in with collars around their necks. They spent their lives in pet shops, just waiting for the dreadful day that they’ll be bought. They were treated like animals, trained into what their master wanted, and punished if they misbehaved. Those who were lucky enough to live through that, we’re to be slaughtered for their blood at age twenty-five in an act to make sure that our population would stay steady. I was born into this world. Born into this world full of blood-sucking monsters. Except, I was one of the lucky ones. Was. It all ended for me when I was 12, when I was taken away from the last bit of hope and family that I had left. Ever since then, I’ve lived in a cage, just rotting away, waiting, dreading for the day that some monster would make me his. This is my life. I am a pet. — You can read it here.
  • HEAT by EmelineRousselot — Summary: “Shh, little mouse, you don’t have to run away…” my words were hypnotic, whispering into the magic of the atmosphere. “Spanking can be a form of pleasure, just as much as it can discipline.” She gave an almost imperceptible shake of her head, spine ramrod straight, clearly disagreeing with my words. I stood up behind her, one hand holding her hip, and leaned down, my breath ragged against her neck, my voice husky,  “I’ll listen to your body… what it wants… and my body… what it needs.  You won’t feel the pain of correction like you did today… only the pleasure that a little bite of pain can bring.” When the mouse runs, the cat will chase. — You can read it here.
  • The Female Warrior And The Alpha by Yasminne_ — Summary: Elisia Knight, an undefeated warrior in the US and the first ever female warrior. The Imperial Pride Pack opened their arms to her when she was abandoned on their territory as a baby. After hearing rumors that there is a female warrior from The BlackShadowed Pack claiming to be ‘better than her’, she decides to accept their match request to put the rumors to rest. As someone who has never been interested in romantic relationships, she didn’t expect to find her mate. She never imagined being paired with an Alpha, let alone the most powerful Alpha in the country. Especially not Alpha Theo Hunter. Hesitant to initiate anything with him, she focuses on preparing herself for the match. However, she soon finds out that the female she will be up against, is obsessed with being in a romantic relationship with Alpha Theo. The longer she stays on their territory, the more secrets start to get unveiled. Dark and disturbing secrets that, unfortunately, ties her’s and Theo’s family together in the worst way possible. What does fate have in store for them? — You can read it here.

Day 8/25: I Decluttered And Reorganized My Closet | Mojo Magic

There is just something about feeling you have your shit together when you have a well-organized closet hence why I added it to the list. I also needed the push to actually organize my closet? It’s been a while and the mess has slightly gotten out of hand. I straighten out Onno’s closet every week but mine isn’t a priority? I really don’t understand myself sometimes. Regardless it felt wonderful to go through my clothes again and now I feel more put together and ready to face the world so the goal behind the task has definitely been accomplished.

Here is the before and after pictures of my closet. Doesn’t it look so much better?

Seeing the difference between the ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures soothes my soul. I did end up keeping a lot of clothes that no longer fit me. I have a hard time letting go and although I managed to fill up two plastic bags for donation, I hung onto another bag. Normally I wouldn’t necerssarily recommend this because it can be toxic for your mental health to hang onto clothes with the idea you will fit into it again but in this case I want to keep it as a motivation for my weightloss. Talking about my weightloss is a bit of a touchy subject for me. I started this year with the mindset that I’m happy with my body and I don’t intend to go on this crazy weightloss journey but the thing is…I need to lose weight to improve our chances with trying to concieve. I have every intention to lose weight this year hence why I’m holding onto these smaller pieces. It feels wasteful to get rid of them. I just need to lose weight in a healthy manner so I won’t get lost in that toxic mindset again. How did decluttering and reorganizing my closet get to my relationship with my body?

Anyway, there isn’t much else I can say. My closet is nice and neat now and I’m super pleased with myself. It’s kind of amazing. I’ve been meaning to do this for awhile now but it felt like it would be this massive task and instead it was actually a nice start to my morning. I put on a podcast, made myself a cup of cappuccino and did one section at a time. I feel like I set myself up for futher success today. I might actually get a lot of small tasks done so that’s awesome.

Thank you so much for reading and I will see you in a click!

Day 7/25: I Organized My Messy Drawer | Mojo Magic

I think we all have that one drawer in the house that is just one chaotic mess. It’s the place where things that we don’t know where to put go. I have six of them and they’ve slowly been driving me crazy. So, I brided my husband to take me to the shops (I had to get a few other bigger things that would be a bitch to get back home with the bicycle so we drove with the car), and while there I got two organization options. One basket set with four pieces: large, medium and two smalls and one plastic set with the same four pieces set up. It took me less than five minutes to organize and declutter each drawer. I think a part of me thought that this would be a massive task and instead, I finished before I could even blink and now everything is right in the world again. I think going forward I’m going to get try to organize and declutter one or two drawers every month until everything is neatly organized. My adult heart is practically swooning. We try to do something around the house every month and it’s finally coming together and I’m so excited. Although saying that, there isn’t one single room in this house that’s hundred percent finished just like we want it. All well, baby steps hey? Okay, so there isn’t much else I can say so here is the before and after pictures.

Damn, we have A LOT of 3D glasses. Onno and I love going to the movies and at one point we ALWAYS forgot to take the 3D glasses with us and ended up having enough for a small army. Now I always take them with and we’ve been able to get some use in them although the one glasses doesn’t work anymore. They changed it? Also, it seems kind of still messy but I promise it’s organized?

I can’t tell you how happy it makes me too have this drawer super neat. It’s never been like this and I feel so grown up now.

That’s about it folks. There is only so much I can say about a task that took me five minutes to complete. I’m also happy to report that we didn’t have time for the 8-hour The Hobbit marathon this weekend so I get to do that some other weekend. Yay me. The things I do for my husband, I swear.

One quick life update before I wave goodbye. My dad is doing really, really well. He is up and about again and learning to walk with his prosthesis. Things are looking up and I couldn’t be happier. Try not to tear up with this video.

Also, my first day at my new job is on Wednesday and I’m so incredibly excited for this new chapter in my life. I can’t wait. Now one more thing before I leave: Are you guys enjoying this project? If you happen to complete this 25 Day Mojo Magic Project yourself please tag me? I would love to see your experience with it. See you tomorrow!

Day 6/25: My Favorite Childhood Memory | Mojo Magic

The first memory that popped into my head when I decided to write about my favorite childhood memory is not necessarily a specific memory or a specific day. It’s just something I used to do. So, I’m going to try to explain what it is and if it sounds strange it’s because it is kind of strange. Once I butchered explaining this quite sweet memory, I will add a picture. Let’s see how I do. Feel free to score me in the comment section below. Okay, let’s jump straight in.

When I was six or seven years old, I often did this thing with my dad’s big worker boots. Its something that at one point I would do at parties. So, I will tuck my knees into his boots, tie it up real good. I will then waggle around and I say waggle because my feet tucked tight against my butt looked like a little ducktail. Strange right? Here is that picture I was talking about. Hey, I warned you about my shitty explantation. I knew I was going to mess that up before I even wrote it down.

Baby Cassy 3

It’s such a sweet and silly thing I used to do because my dad found it funny and I felt like the star of my own show. I was so happy when I stumbled onto that old picture so now I get to frame it and hang it up in our home. I also can’t wait to take the same picture of my own kids doing this little party trick. Onno doesn’t own those big worker boots though so we might have to use his sneakers? Three-year-old knees should be able to fit into it? All well, we will cross that bridge when we come to it. I will definitely share the moment on my blog when that time comes.

I thought it would be super cool and fun to ask my parent’s their favorite memory from my childhood. My mom and dad were stuck between two stories, sharing one story in common. As it’s a funny story and I haven’t told it yet, you guys are about to get three stories from my childhood. You’re welcome? Let’s start with the story they both wanted to share. When I was about seven or eight years old, I one day decided to skip out on the daycare and instead walked home with my friend. I was able to squeeze myself between the burglar bars, unlock the house so we could cook lunch. I remember we made eggs and nearly burned down the house. After having a quick lunch, we returned to my wendy/dollhouse my dad and grandfather had built in the backyard. While my friend and I were having the time of our lives, the entire town was searching for us. My parents were driving around in a complete anxious state, the police searched the usual hot spots for missing kids. Friends of the family joined in on the search party. Two to three hours into the search party, my older friend whipped open the dollhouse door, panic clear on his face. Apparently, someone had come home to check in the house but didn’t see us or thought to look in the dollhouse nor hear us having the time of our lives. I was more than petrified to see my parents, I was in deep shit. They were more relieved to see me than angry (the anger came later) but little old Cassandra couldn’t be bothered. At least it’s a story we can laugh about today. Now, that I’m a bit older I can only imagine that went through their mind as they searched for their young child all over town. The world is an ugly place.  Oh God, my children better not pull this trick on me. My heart won’t be able to handle that.

The story my mom decided to go for was my first day of school. The day before school started, I was beyond excited to go to the big school. I remember throwing a little tantrum when I woke up and I had to wait one whole day before school started. I got dressed in my school uniform, packed my little school bag and sat on the porch. It was a fight to get me out of my school uniform. You would think that the next day would be smooth sailing but instead little old Cassandra flat out refused to go to school. My mom had to drag me to the car after struggling to get me into the same uniform I didn’t even want to remove the day before, she then had a crying child all the way to school. Little old Cassandra was a brat that wasn’t afraid to throw tantrums left and right. That’s right. Right there in front of the school, I threw a tantrum, screaming my little lungs off. My mom couldn’t pull me off the floor and decided to call in calvary. My dad showed up, annoyed to have been called from work, picked me up and carried me to class. He then sat me down in the middle of the class and went on his way. I then started to cry even more because the entire class was looking at me. Lovely.

*My grandmother gave me this picture as all of our photos were stolen. Here is the translation baby Cassy wrote for her grandparents. 12/4/2004 (Mei) – Dear Granny and Grandpa. From Cassandra Meake (baby Cassy forgot the r at the end) 2AO (second year of primary school so 8 years old). I love you lots. You’re the best Granny and Grandpa.*

The story my dad decided to go for is my love to bathe my cat in the bathroom sink. My cat hated it but she would put up with me like most cats tend to do when it comes to their annoying pests, I mean owners.

*Her name was Marmite. My brother found her as a kitten in the middle of a busy road when he was out with his friends. I woke up the next morning to find this small ball of black fluff. My dad named her and she quickly became my best friend. She used to always come back home around my bedtime so I could fall asleep with her in my arms. Oh, she was such a sweetheart. I miss her. She went through everything with us from us being homeless (she had to stay with my mom’s friend for those three months) to us living the best life (before the shit hit the storm and we lost everything). Oh my, I miss her so much.*

That’s all the memories I have from my childhood that I’m going to share today. For shit and giggles, I asked Onno for his favorite childhood memory. When Onno was eight years old, his family explored the whole world for one year straight. From America, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and too funny enough South Africa. It was a massive adventure that I can only wish Onno and I would be able to do for our children one day. Maybe a European trip when the kids are older?

Before I leave, I would love to know your favorite childhood memory. Feel free to share it in the comment section below. Anyway, see you guys tomorrow. Pray for my soul. I’m watching The Hobbit with my favorite person in the world. Urgh. 8 hours. Ew.

Thank you so much for reading and I will see you in a click!

Day 5/25: Laugh | Mojo Magic

You know what they say, laughter is the best medicine. When I think of my go-to movie or series that makes me laugh it’s usually something related to Adam Sandler. He’s one of my favorite actors of all time. I’ve always loved his movies or anything he is in, really. One of my favorite movies of his is Grown ups but unfortunately one of the actors who played in that movie passed away recently and that thought kind of dampers the happiness of the movie. I’m sure I will eventually go back to enjoying the movie but it will take time. It always tears me apart when young people die. It scares me. I still to this day vividly remember this one book we had to read for school. In this book, the main character’s best friend died. It was a freak accident. They went surfing, his board knocked him over the head and he drowned. I took this fictional character’s death incredibly hard. It gnawed on me for months. In this book, they had a quote and it stuck with me for years. I wrote it down everywhere. I wish I can remember it. It was something along the lines of life is like the ocean or a wave. It was something sea related but it resonated with me. Although saying that much be pretty hard to believe because I honestly can’t remember the quote. It stuck with me for years though. That I remember. Anyway, I’m getting off-topic (no surprise there), so my favorite movie I’ve watched a good ten times is out of question. My favorite series is ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ but the thing is, I recently rewatched the entire series again so it’s still super fresh in my memory? I literally finished the last episode less than a month ago after starting from the first episode again so…I don’t know what I’m going to do about this whole watch something that’s going to make you laugh thing. Give me a moment. Maybe a comedy special?

So, it’s the next day and by the time you see this the credits of the movie I decided to watch would probably still be rolling. So, drumroll please for an incredibly unsurprising movie choice. ‘Jack and Jill’ starring Adam Sandler. Surprise! I mean he is wearing a dress. What more can a girl ask for? Also, growing up I found the idea of twins super cool like how awesome is that? I also find the relationship between Jack and Jill hilarious. Especially the jabs Jack makes towards Jill. It’s a bit dark and like my husband mentioned before, I have a dark sense of humor. I asked Onno what his impression of the movie is after glancing at the screen for a few minutes and he said: “It seems weird.” So, right in my ballpark.

To round of this blog because I mean there is only so much I can say at this point, one of my favorite moments is when they are in the movie cinema and the twins are in perfect unison with their behavior. I always have a good chuckle at the fart scene. That’s me. My favorite character in the movie is the parrot. Also me. There isn’t much else to say.  If you haven’t watched it yet, definitely give it a try. It’s on Netflix. Also, can we just talk about Johnny Depp wearing a Justin Bieber shirt? That’s legendary. It’s a mood.

Here is some comedy specials/series/movies that I find funny.

  • Anything with Ali Wong. She recently came out with a Netflix movie that’s beyond funny. It’s called ‘Always Be My Maybe‘. If you haven’t watched it yet, please do. It’s really good.
  • 2 Broke Girls is also really good. Max is my lesbian lover.
  • Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias’s comedy specials are hilarious.
  • Iliza Shlesinger is hilarious. I love her goat voice. She has a few stand-up comedy specials on Netflix.
  • Sarah Silvermoon’s Netflix special called ‘A Speck of Dust’ was really good. I found it quite funny.
  • Jim Jefferies’s Netflix special called by ‘Bare’ was really good.
  • I’m also obsessed with Anna Kendrick. She is everything. I loved her movie ‘Mr. Right’
  • Fire off round: Bridemaids, The Hangover, That’s My Boy, Ted, Big Stan, Easy A, Accepted, Yes Man, Meet The Fockers, The Hot Chick, We’re The Millers, Ride Along, 21 Jump Street, Grandma’s Boy, Central Intelligence and etc.

Anyway, I had a good laugh so that’s nice. I don’t really know what else to say so see you tomorrow?

Thank you so much reading and I will see you in a click!
